Nightsong has been a leading force in New Zealand theatre for many years. They create distinctive theatre of vision and scale, championing experiences that question and affirm our place in the world. Their works mix rich poetic language with music, visual arts, puppetry, illusion and choreographed movement. Known for exciting and surprising audiences to what is possible theatrically, they celebrate nuanced ideas which ricochet between the absurd and profound, Nightsong is artistically led by Ben Crowder and Carl Bland. They have been collaborating since 2005.
The work they make is daring and open-hearted. It has been described as: ‘Full of ideas and never dull, complicated and never confusing, unafraid to mix stupid jokes with very sly subversion, paced with a fleet- footed elegance, laced with grief and hilarious to the end, charming even as it takes us to the edge of the abyss, and then does its best to rescue us from it.’ – Metro Magazine
