Founded at The Royal Conservatory in celebration of the sesquicentennial, Kuné explores and celebrates Canada's cultural diversity through the shared language of music. The 11 musicians hail from all corners of the globe - Peru, Burkina Faso, Cuba, China and beyond. Together, they create a sound that is at once global and uniquely local. On stage, Kuné (which means together in Esperanto) fuses 11 musical traditions and 25 instruments into an ear-spinning confection of leaping melodies and luscious timbres.

Universal Echoes (their 2nd album released in April 2023) explores the four elements of earth, and Mother Nature, through music. The compositions were all created through the collaborative efforts of Kuné's members and feature music inspired by the musicians' direct lived and cultural experiences. Universal Echoes stem from the idea of oneness - the interrelatedness of all beings, joining together and unifying all that inhabits our world. Through the motion of an Echo, slightly varied repeated sounds reoccur over different spaces, reverberating, bouncing, travelling, and reflecting. The musical program of Kuné does just that, taking the listener on an audio voyage, hearing both familiar and foreign sounds.
